Who is Saint Valentine?
Saint Valentine was a martyred priest whose life was a mystery. Here are some legends surrounding his life.
One story is that Valentine was a priest who was arrested after refusing to follow the Roman Emperor's law that young men must not marry. It is said that Valentine married couples in secret.
Another tale is that Valentine was a priest who was ordered to be executed. The night before he lost his life he wrote a note to a girl he loved, the daughter of the jailer. The note ended with "From your Valentine." This is said to be the first "Valentine" note.
